Portrait Photographer Research Assignment

"The Groom" By Jason Lavengood
I find this image to be very interesting since it breaks away from the norm of portrait photography without looking amateur. The textured background draws the subject closer due to the comparison between the light colored bricks and the mans dark suit and darker lighting on his face. The lighting around the mans face is interesting because on one side it highlights all important features that the eye is naturally drawn to when looking at portrait photography which is emphasized my the other half being darker in order to allow the eye to drift over the image as a whole.
"Africa" By John Kenny
What initially drew me to this picture was the strong focus on line throughout the portrait. The textures fabric creates a natural frame for the main facial features which draws you in to the mans facial expression that I find to be very captivating. The dark background and shading is only present in the foreground and background which makes the light spots even lighter and naturally drawing forth the  main focal point.
